Windows XP's 20th Anniversary
Windows XP is a very well known and critically acclaimed operating system. It's highly regarded as the best OS of all time with its impact in the technology market being one of the most well-known and influential in its 13 year lifespan.
Even after its demise in 2014: Windows XP lived on and continues to in a small but meaningful way.
Truly, Windows XP is immortal in both our hearts and real word usage. Especially in the US Millitary where all of their pcs run Windows XP.
Absolutely mind-blowing in my opinion.
But let's be real. Windows XP's development, launch, and legacy is some of the most interesting I've seen in a little bit. Second to Vista's launch in 2006, and the stories are everywhere.
XP has been documented, leaked, reverse engineered, customized, and installed so many times. Why bother writing an article on the world's most popular operating system?
Because theres some interesting things discovered about XP since its launch.
1999
Bugs, games, and the internet. 1999 was a milestone for Microsoft marking the end of an era for DOS based windows computing.
Microsoft needed to ditch the aging Windows 9x kernel and Windows ME really showed that. In the same year: an early prototype of the Luna UI was developed.
This would eventually stick and become the final design for Windows XP. With a few tweaks to make it look better.
